Dollish Polish - Expecto Patronum: Swatches and Review

I just can't get enough of these indie polishes... especially the pastel/white jelly bases with glitter! (I'm currently on a mission to get NailVenturous Robin Laid an Egg!)

Dollish Polish - Expecto Patronum

Like Pretty & Polished Jawbreaker, this is a nice squishy white jelly that is opaque in 2-3 easy coats (3 shown). There is a mix of small and medium teal holo glitter, as well as some larger teal hex glitters, and subtle orange flakies. The flakies don't show well in the picture, but then again they don't show too much in person either - just a flash of orange every once in awhile. I love how some of the glitter from the first coat(s) get buried underneath the white jelly to give it different shades of teal and some depth.

The only quirk with this polish that I've found is that the large hexes are not flat... instead they are very chunky and ruin the smoothness of the polish. I think Dollish was having a problem with some glitter in another of her polishes, Hip Hop Hippity Hop, and this one seems to have the same issue. I think she was working on resolving the glitter issue in Hip Hop, so I imagine Expecto Patronum will be fixed as well. For now, I just don't shake the bottle and let the big hexes fall to the bottom so I don't get any on the brush. The other glitter and flakies still seem to suspend nicely.

Here is a picture of the cute mini bottle. These bottles are pretty tiny, but it's great to be able to sample lots of polishes for less! I love Expecto Patronum so much that I'm looking to buy a full sized bottle once the glitter is fixed!

Expecto Patronum is available on the Dollish Polish Etsy shop, but business has been booming so much that she's been opening and closing the shop to be able to keep up with orders. Sign up to be notified when she reopens if you're hoping to get this beauty!

Cult Nails - Toxic Seaweed

This polish is part of Cult Nails latest collection Let's Get Nekkid and they've said that there are limited quantities available of this one, so I was super excited to get a hold of it. I knew I'd like it, but I didn't expect to be this blown away.

Cult Nails - Toxic Seaweed

This is just gorgeous. It's a teal jelly with gold glitter and orange flakies. This is built up to three coats, but it looks nice at two. It just seems to get deeper and darker with each coat. I don't know what else to say except that if you like jellies with glitter or flakies, you should definitely pick this one up.

As of now, Toxic Seaweed appears to be still available on the Cult Nails site for $10. Better grab one while you can!

Edit:  Wanted to add this cute bonus picture of the cute polish burrito that it came in!

Hard Candy Glossaholic - Chill Out

I may have said this before, but I rarely EVER wear makeup. However, I TRY to wear lip balm/gloss as much as I can because I have this horrible habit of picking at my lips when they are chapped (which is all the time... because I pick at them *sigh*).

I was nail polish hunting at Wal Mart when I noticed these awesome flaky lip glosses by Hard Candy, so I figured I'd try one for only $5. Why not?

Hard Candy Glossaholic - Chill Out

One thing I didn't notice just by looking at them is the awesome HUGE applicator that it comes with! I mean seriously, this thing is about two and a half times thicker than most lip gloss applicators, and I think it's great (I don't know why, I just like it)! It does seem to have some serious suction behind it though every time I pull it out. Check this doozy out!

It actually looks really neat on as well! It contains both blue and orange flakies in a clear base - this is similar to Finger Paints Asylum or Deborah Lippmann's Edge of Glory flakies nail polishes.

**BTW... I'm desperately trying to find Asylum at the moment and not for ridiculous ebay prices... if your Sally's has them I'd love to buy one from you!!!**

Here is how Chill Out looks on:

The second picture shows how the orange flakies change to green at an angle - totally awesome! It won't add any color to your lips, but I kind of like that because you could wear it over your favorite color to add some sparkle!

Sinful Colors Let's Talk and Nfu-Oh 51

Just a quick layering combination that I had in mind when I first got Nfu-Oh 51. I'd seen it over purples and blues and loved it, so I wanted to try it with the most vibrant purple I own: Sinful Colors Let's Talk. This color is crazy I tell you!

I tried to capture the color shift of the Nfu-Oh flakies in the next couple pictures. You can see the bright green at the extreme angles. Soooo neat!

Here's a quick pic of Let's Talk on it's own... isn't it amazing?!

Lincoln Park After Dark and Nfu-Oh 49 Matte

So for today, I figured I'd give the matte version a shot, even though the manicure is getting a little ragged at this point. I used China Glaze Matte Magic.

I really like the matte version! It looks even more like fall leaves! What do you think? Matte or shiny??
