Layla - Flash Black: Swatches and Review

LOOK AT THIS POLISH!

LOOK AT IT!

Layla Holo Effect - Flash Black

Holy rainbows, Batman! Isn't it incredible?! I can't get over it.  It's too perfect.  I've worn it three times in the last two weeks, which is a record for me!

Flash Black is an amazing charcoal linear holo.  It applies like butter in two easy coats over an aqua base coat such as Nfu-Oh Aqua Base or the Jessica Hologram Chic base (although I've heard it's a pain to apply without the aqua base).  It also doesn't dull with a topcoat!   In short, it's perfect, and I need a backup bottle.

*swoon*

And here's a shade (indirect sunlight) pic to show that it still has a holo effect even in lower lighting:

Layla Holo Effects can be purchased at Harlow & Co, as well as on Aveyou.  They run about $15-16, and there have been rumors that Ulta may carry them soon as well.

  9. I'm wearing this right now too and am loving it! I have a couple of questions from what you mentioned in your post:

    - did you use a base colour (i.e. basic black) or applied it on it's own over a base coat?
    - how many coats did you use?
    - what top coat did you use that didn't dull the holo effect? I tried a topcoat on my pinky and it took the effect mostly away! So I had to apply another coat of flash black on top to cover it up lol

    Thanks :)

    1. I used an aqua base (usually 2 coats seems to work best for me) like the Nfu-Oh Aqua Base or the Jessica Hologram Chic base. Then I did two coats of Flash Black then one coat of Seche Vite. I've also used Cult Nails Wicked Fast over it as well with no dulling.

Just a note, it will LOOK really dull when you first apply the top coat, but as it dries it gets all of the rainbow back :o)

    2. Thanks for the quick response! I get what you're saying about waiting for the top coat to dry and I did but it was still dull. I will have to try Seche I guess!
I layered mine over black because I thought it was save some of the polish lol. Next time I will try it on it's own with the Nfu Oh Aqua base, I would probably have a better time applying it lol

    3. I have heard others say that Sally Hansen Insta-Dri dulls them so I imagine that there are some that work and some that don't. But I definitely recommend the aqua base. It makes it last longer and covers any ridges or imperfections in your nail.

I've also heard that it takes more coats to make it "nice" without the aqua base (and therefore uses more precious polish!). I've worn it for several manicures so far and have hardly noticed a dent in the level of the polish in the bottle, although the labels are a little tough to see through :o)

  11. Do you know where we can buy the aqua bases? I tried amazon to no luck, but found this polish for 14.76 on there! So I really want to try it!

    1. FNUG has an aqua base that's sometimes in stock on shop.larrowe.com or www.ninjapolish.com. The Ninjas also sometimes have the Nfu-Oh aqua base in stock as well.
